The Graphic Design Work of Cristiana Couceiro

I’m really liking these Collage designs by Cristiana Couceiro. Definite Bauhausian (if such a word exists) and Constructivist technique going on here. I love her use of simple base colour and the clean lines she uses to frame and draw the eye to the points of interest and message.
In todays design ‘Culture’ of trying to fit every style and every colour and to fill the page with abstract shapes and lines that, quite often, lead the eye everywhere and nowhere, but rather visually bombarding the eyes so that the viewer misses the message and becomes overwhelmed by the aesthetic, i’m not saying that there aren’t those out there that do this kind of work well because there are quite a few and some of them are brilliant but it is truly wonderful to see someone still working in the classic styles of the 20th Century and using methods that we are all taught as graphic designers and illustrators but often fall to the wayside due to trends etc.
Cristiana Couceiro’s work is a reminder of how beautiful grid based, clean and simple graphic design can be. When i say simple i am referring to the use of space and form within the work and not to the talent of the artist, because this type of work is by no means simple in its execution and certainly takes hard work to get right in terms of balance between space, form and colour.

Cristiana Couceiro is a freelance Graphic Designer from Lisbon in Portugal.

  • Hey, that’s some very inspiring graphic design right there. We love the blend of Scandinavian/Swiss style and the strong black & white photography. Thanks for showing this!
