Oscillate – Motion Graphics by Daniel Sierra

Lovely motion graphics piece from Daniel Sierra using Houdini for the animation. Houdini is something i’ve not come across before…this video is similar to something StudioDen75 did with a music video for ‘The Shadow Orchestra’, who are now ‘Talk in Colour’ using Trapcode Particular, SoundKeys and Trapcode Form though Daniel’s looks a hell of a lot better. Oscillate is a lovely piece of motio graphics and i really like this kind of music & sound driven, organi, design…you can only control this stuff to a point and then you have to give it over to the sound or music you’re using, which makes for a really interesting and truly collaborative piece of work though from what i read Daniel created the music as well. Aren’t you a bright boy Daniel.Git.

The Defector – An interactive animation by Psyop

This is the project that won Psyop the FITC’s people’s choice award. It’s an amazing interactive animation that takes you, the viewer, on the journey of someone defecting from North Korea. As you proceed through the narrative there are interactive points that open extra footage and information elements to help you understand the life and process that a defector must go through.

This project was also co-created with Fathom Films, Jam 3 and directod by Ann Shin.

Horror Movies: Newspaper Advertising

I remember when these were actually in the papers, well not all of them i’m not that old, but these kind of ads were exactly what fuelled my curiosity for horror Movies and then once i got to work in the first video shop in my town…well, i don’t think i saw daylight for a good few years.

The Design of posters and ads like these were great, limited space to get the overall idea of what the movie is about and still visually interesting. I think some web banner designers could do with looking at these for inspiration on how to make use of limited space and keep it looking good.

The film titles were so much more imaginative as well. ‘The Blood Splattered Bride’ Awesome…i wonder if QT had called his film that instead of ‘Kill Bill’ whether it would has been as much of a hit?

The History of the Title Sequence

‘The Film before the Film’

This is a great research film made by Nora Thoes and Damian Pérez who are studying at the Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule on the history if the film title sequence and its importance in the history of film.

Great work. Enjoy.

What is Dead May Never Die

Great little motion graphic piece based on retro televisual iconic design elements those of us over the age of 30 may recognize…they’re also engaging which just goes to show that you don’t need loads of elements to make motion graphics work.

New MadMen Poster by original 60′s artist Brian Sanders

The brilliant and wonderful artist Brian Sanders has made the new official MadMen poster for the upcoming series that starts on April 7th.
I’m a big fan of this 60′s style of illustration and love the fact that MadMen creator Matthew Weiner has decided to use this style to promote the series. I am now even more excited.

Rosemary’s Baby Poster

I’ve just finished these three versions of a poster for Rosemary’s baby…one of my favourite films ever.
I wanted to go another way a little and include Minnie and Roman in there as i think this adds a little more intrigue as to their role in the film if you hadn’t seen it already…who hasn’t seen it though right?
I also wanted to steer away from the colour green which seems to have played a huge part in previous posters, i’m sure due to the success of the original poster which was awesome. I did use the green for the title text on the middle poster though as na homage.

Hope you enjoy, please leave comments i would love to know whether you like these…or not.
